Heather Betsworth, Ph.D.
Founder, head teacher
I am a graduate of Georgetown College and the University of the Cumberlands. I earned my Ph.D. in Leadership with emphases in both K-12 and postsecondary education in 2015. I also hold a MA.Ed in Reading and Writing (P-12), a B.S. in Elementary Education (K-5), and Rank I teaching certification. I’ve worked in both public and private school settings and also taught dance classes at Capital City Dance Studio for 13 years. I am a fierce advocate for art and science education, as well as a firm believer that “it is better to know how to learn than to know” (Dr. Seuss).
I am a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education, grades K-12. I have a wide range of experiences with preschool through high school age students and a strong technical background in numerous art mediums. My educational model is Discipline-Based Art Education, which revolves around art production, the study of art history, understanding art criticism, and learning about art aesthetics. “L’art pour l’art.” – Theophile Gautier
ASL instructor, teaching assistant
I am a recent graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders and have been a dance instructor with Capital City Dance Studio for 5 years. Learning is exciting to me, especially when you can take your knowledge and directly influence an individual, a community, or an even bigger population to help improve the lives of others. I am excited to share my love of learning with the exceptional students at Arbor Vitae Academy!
